Do "Points" Matter?

What is the purpose of the "points" listed under everyone's avatar?

Or is this forum like Whose Line where points are arbitrary and don't matter anyway?

They are reputation points. You can assess them by clicking on the plus or minus sign that appears in each post. Generally, spam posts in spam threads are not voted on so it is a more accurate assessment of a person's quality of posting. I give positives votes to all my staff when they post their assignments, so they have better reputations than everybody else.

I think he means the other points, above the reputation but below the post count. The points seemingly earned just by posting posts and posting topics, among other activities.

They measure your overall activity and likeability so yes it is a BIG deal
