[SEF] Favorite Books - Page 2 The-pillars-of-the-earth

absolutely the best book i ever read

Franklin Stone wrote:I don't usually do this, but over on the eUSA Forums this thread, Bad SciFi/Fantasy Movies based on books, has caused some controversy.

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

With any fantasy fiction the story teller must get the reader to suspend all rational thought and believe in the existence of the universe the teller has created. One of the things the Grand Masters of Science Fiction achieved was a simple writing device: timelines. Two of the greats, Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein, used it to create extremely believable almost seamless universes; the above thread made me think about the importance of timing.

I think LotR screwed the pooch when they did not make 'The Hobbit' a part of a 4 movie LotR. Seems to me that J. R. R. Tolkien wrote 'The Hobbit' first for a reason and it was too short for 3 movies on it's own.

One last question before I leave, how much of these two SciFI greats work would be published under Fantasy in todays market?
pipe ...ing off all the ham.

i think the film "the Hobbit" really sucks, it should have been only one film instead oh 3 and most of it is taken from the Silmarillio or invented (as the whole last film)

I have read every book that Harry Norman Turtledove has ever written, this guy is a master of the 'what if'?

What if the Nazi had won World War Two? Worldwar series...

What if the South had won the Civil War?  Southern Victory Series...
