If you find yourself with a couple of hours to spend and want to read a really good memoir by a player who definitely (for better and for worse) shaped the game for a couple years, go here:

http://eusaforums.com/forum/index.php/topic,26493.msg446636.html#msg446636

The memoir itself will take you an hour or more to read, then you can page through the comments in the forum thread and see what others have to say.

In my opinion, the writing of such a memoir is a fantastic undertaking. Nobody should expect 100% accuracy nor lack of bias.

And so as a memoir, this one is spectacular, and the conversation that it started is also quite good.

This is great history for a new player, I now get to understand a little of how we got here.

any less biased histories you would recommend?

Completely historically inaccurate on a number of things, but offers great insight into how the game looks to the mind of a more prominent player. I think more retired players should take up such. Well worth reading, just don't take it as a factual history lesson.

I haven't read it yet, but I would like to know what qualifies you to dispute erep history. I'm looking at your rank and strength in your signature and it seems that you are still a younger player.

That's quite a valid point, certainly, but I personally know Talostastic and... I can't remember his own account name, but my buddy was off-and-on using Josh Frost's account while he was gone, though he quit shortly before I started playing so I never asked his account to add him.

Regardless, between those two talking about eRep over the course of the past couple years--and my bothering Talo for information on mechanics and who people are, and the state of affairs on the political scene--and taking to the eusaforums as well as reading the wiki and old articles when I come across them? I think I'm well enough informed for a new kid.

Of course, I also realize that anything I learn from the likes of Talo or Emerick or any of the other trollish old players is likely going to be biased as well. Everything I've seen though, points towards this memoir being interesting and worth note, but not a reliable record.

They are all biased, that is what makes them so excellent to read.

That one is awesome.
