If you are into RPGs, i recommend Divinity Original Sin. Nice graphics good gameplay and some black humor

I'm new to PC gaming and at the moment I've been enjoying playing Far Cry 3 (there's a mod that makes the game much more difficult) and Metro: Last Light.  I also still play AoE 3 from time to time, but find the AI to be too easy and everyone online too difficult (everyone uses the same rush strategy).

I liked Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, my PC is quite similar to yours and I could play these games. Not that beautiful, but I myself love atmosphere over graphics (in games).

If you have a friend or several that you enjoy playing games with, there is Dungeons and Dragons online.  Free to play.  It's best if you can team speak or Skype while playing to coordinate.  I've also played it by myself- still fun. The best part is you can generally do a quest in a single session.

Free to play....there are modules for purchase but I've never felt the need to go there.
