I use the stand alone program IceCHAT and once idled for 3 days without timing out, used mibbit once (after trying to figure out how to use it for a couple of days) and timed out in 15 minutes. I have always felt that IRC is good when you are needing to conduct a meeting, issuing orders, requesting supplies or to control a mass attack, but other that it is pretty useless....

Not true its a good tool to help build a community. I remember when IRC used to be active and many of the people that I have become internetz friends with over this game, the relationship was built on IRC.

But as our community dies so does the IRC

Just never got why eRepublik never tried to implement a chat system ingame more than just messages.

I always feel that irc is not very user friendly and practical. Why don't we use Skype or Teamspeak?

IRC is very lightweight and simple. It's not pretty, but it works quite well, and I don't see much reason to abandon it.

IRC activity I think should only be an alternative. The chat box in this forum works quite well and is easier to use/access

I feel that the chat box is great for our mass-attacks, but I prefer IRC for general contact, and I idle in a dozen channels.
