So I saw someone streaming this game tonight - World of Warships - and it looked pretty fuckin cool.

i was playing world of tanks from same company that made this game http://eu.wargaming.net/ (they have 6 games right now).
One thing is sure about game is there is a lot of people playing it, its very competitive, you have even eSport  last major tournament was in Las Vegas .

FWIW, I am still playing this game and enjoying the heck out of it.

It’s easy to learn the basics, and the competition is even at all levels, meaning you have just as much fun playing as a beginner as you will moving up the ladder.

It’s a legit free-to-play. There are things you can buy, but the advantages of them are subtle. The biggest advantage of spending is probably just the accellerated XP gain. And even that doesn’t give you much of an advantage in-battle.

As you level up, you unlock the really cool team-play features. This combined with a voice-over app (I am recommending Discord) and you can get highly coordinated in the battle environment making the game heart-pounding exciting.

There are four ship types:

Destroyers
Destroyers are small, fast, highly maneuverable, difficult to detect, and are deadly. They have limited Artillery and Anti-Aircraft weaponry, but are equipped with smoke for smokescreens (which benefit the entire team) and devastating torpedoes.

Battleships
Battleships are large, slow, and not very maneuverable, but they have high caliber - long range Artillery, good Anti-Aircraft guns, nice close-range Artillery, are heavily armored and have excellent in-battle repair mechanics. Battleships are hard to sink.

Aircraft Carriers
You can also go to battle with a “CV”, or Aircraft Carrier. These are nearly immobile and have no long-range Artillery at all. What they do have, however, are squadrons of Fighter, Bomber, and Torpedo Bomber aircraft that you control. CV’s play differently than the other ships, but are fun to master and can do a lot of damage over time.

Cruisers
I mention these last even though they are what you will start out playing. A Cruiser is a hybrid of all three other ship-types. They are faster than Battleships, less manueverable than Destroyers, but have great long and short range Artillery, can launch planes (once you reach a certain tier), are equipped with Torpedoes, and are generally a ton of fun. Cruisers are the meat and potatoes.

Also, you can play ships from USA, Japan, Russia, and Germany, a dynamic that makes for even more fun.

What can I say? You should check it out. It’s a bitch to download - plan on an hour - but once it’s running you’re in for lots of fun.
